At Wythe Care Veterinary Service, Inc we believe in preventative care.  Therefore, we offer the following services to help keep your pet healthy and part of the family.

At Wythe Care, we understand your pet is part of the family. Therefore we provide full exams of your pet with each visit.  We recommend twice yearly exams due to the fact that your pet ages faster than you.  We examine your pet from head to tail each visit to make sure your pet remains healthy. To keep your pet healthy, we will make recommendations  for yearly heartworm and intestinal parasite prevention, tick control, and flea control. We will dispense products that meet your pet's particular needs.  We will also vaccinate your pet to keep diseases such as Parvovirus, Distemper, and Rabies from affecting your pet and your family. We will also make recommendations for proper nutrition for your pet throughout its life stages.

At least once a year, we will recommend lab tests to check the health of your pet on the inside. These tests  can include a Heartworm test, Lyme test, fecal check for intestinal parasites, blood work to make sure there are no signs of metabolic disease such as Diabetes or kidney disease, Thyroid level checks if your pet is not maintaining its weight properly, as well as other tests including urinalysis if needed.  We can perform all of these tests within a few minutes on board our unit!

If needed, we can also radiograph your pet to find potential problems with suspicious pain that may be  caused by arthritis, fracture, disc disease, or neoplasia.  We can have results within seconds of taking the X-Ray so that we can start treating your pet's pain right away.  We can also send a copy to a Radiologist if needed for consult.

Due to our belief in preventative care- Wythe Care Veterinary Service is also equipped with a state of the art ultrasonic dental machine.  Poor dental health can lead to other health problems with your pet- including but not limited to sinus infections, kidney disease, and liver disease.  When needed we recommend dental cleaning and polishing as a part of your pet's preventative health care regimen.  We also like to teach owners how to take better care of their pet's teeth between dental cleanings, so that your pet keeps a healthy mouth for life! Ask us today to schedule a dental health check for your pet, and get your pet on a healthy track!

When necessary, our unit is also equipped with a surgery table that allows us to perform minor surgeries such as laceration repairs, lump removals, as well as biopsies of suspicious masses. We can perform spays or neuters on your cats, as well as neuters on male dogs under 25lb.

We recommend your pet receive lab work prior to sedation to avoid problems with interactions of drugs and metabolic problems, and we send pain control medication home whenever a surgery is performed to improve healing afterward.  When necessary, we may recommend a traditional hospital for overnight care since we do not keep any surgeries overnight.

Our cat spays and neuters recover from surgery on a 4" thick soft bed!  Most are so comfortable the owners that pick up have a hard time getting them to come out of the cage!  Recovery time is spent on our unit, and then the patient is sent home to the care of the owner with specific instructions for aftercare. We provide laser therapy of the spay incision post surgery as we have found this speeds healing time and decreases irritation at the incision. We also provide three days of post surgery pain medication to help speed healing from surgery. Comfort is our goal!

At this time we are not performing spays on dogs due to the longer recovery time, and the fact that we may have to travel to other calls during their recovery time.   Riding in the back of our unit can sometimes be nauseating on a good day-not to mention when you have had surgery!  We hope you understand!  We do recommend local spay/neuter clinics in Bristol, Va called Margaret-Mitchell Spay Neuter Clinic (contact them at (276) 591-5790), or in Christiansburg, VA at Mountain View Spay Neuter Clinic (contact them at (540) 562-8440) .  These clinics offer low cost spays and neuters by trained professionals!

Laser Therapy:  We are pleased to offer our clients the benefits of Laser Therapy!  Laser Therapy has been approved for Veterinary use since 2005. Laser therapy can benefit your pet with acute and chronic conditions including-but not limited to Arthritis (from injury, disc disease, or Lyme disease), Allergies ( iyes those skin allergies can respond to laser therapy!), Otitis (ear infections), Stomatitis (mouth inflammation), wound healing, and more! We advocate use of laser therapy post surgery to speed healing time and improve comfort for the patient!  By using laser therapy, the use of drugs in your pets to control pain may be reduced-leading to better health and comfort for your pet!  Call us today if you have a pet that may benefit from our therapy!

Ultrasound:  Sometimes we just need to see what is on the inside of your pet to help with our diagnosis, and treatment.  Ultrasound is non-invasive, and allows us to see early pregnancies, and bladder infections.

To schedule an appointment, you have several options. You can reach us by texting or leaving a voice mail at (276) 617-0500, emailing us at, or contacting us through our website.  Due to the nature of our traveling business, answering calls is sometimes difficult. Please understand that our team will attempt to accommodate all requests to the best of our ability. If you feel you have an emergency with your pet, we advise taking your pet to a hospital for treatment.  Emergencies are accepted anytime our clinic is open, however, because we are a traveling clinic, we may not be able to reach your home and pet in a timely fashion.  We recommend you contact a traditional veterinary hospital for your emergency needs if we are not available, and do not return your call or text within 30 minutes.
